Lake Vermilion Area nature, wildlife & forests
Lake Vermilion is bordered by Superior National Forest, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, and near Voyageurs National Park.
Enjoy breathtaking sunrises and sunsets over pristine water, view wildlife at work and play, breathe deep of the pure, clean air. Watch for your chance to see the dancing skies when the Northern Lights appear. Don't forget your camera - you'll want to relive your Lake Vermilion vacation many times over!
For a close look at wolves or bears, you can visit the resident pack at the International Wolf Center and the North American Bear Center in nearby Ely, or watch the volunteer staff feed wild bears in the evenings from the safety of a raised platform at the Vince Shutte Wildlife Sanctuary a few miles to the north.
