Lake Vermilion Northern Fishing

Northern season opens May 15, 2010 and closes February 27, 2011

The Minnesota DNR and the Sportsmen's Club of Lake Vermilion cooperatively operate a controlled northern pike spawning area at Sunset Creek on the west end of the lake. The spawning area is stocked with brood fish and the water level is maintained at an optimal level for spawning and the production of fingerlings.A photo of Northern fishing on Lake Vermilion in Minnesota

There is currently a protected slot of 24-36 inches, with one fish allowed over 36". All northerns of 24-36" in length must be immediately returned to the lake. Bag limit is 3 fish.

The largest northern released by our guests in 2009 were 2 - 44" fish caught by Dick Podiwels the week June 7 and Tony Leach the week of August 16.
